The the school year is coming to a close. Time flies. It feels like just yesterday I was complaining about the snow. I guess it wasn’t yesterday. I remember being in school and the time just seemed to drag on. Each second was a like a lifetime as a would daydream away the hours of my days at school. My mom always told me that time will go faster as you age. I never could believe it…now I’m older and I’m telling my kids the same thing. Don’t wish away the time you have…enjoy it.
The time is here for my boys and I to embark on another summer journey together. This marks the last summer for my son in single digits. He’ll be ten in September – he’s changing quickly from a little boy to a tween (I really dislike that word!) and my baby will be 2 in July.
Today at dinner we compiled a comprehensive list of all the things we want to do this summer. Everything from picking blueberries to tent camping to a day at the beach. We’ve decided that Sundays after Church are officially family adventure day and on those days we’ll pick something special from our list to do. There’s enough on our list to add some weekday fun as well!
I want summer to be full of splendid, sweet memories for all of us. I imagine this perfect summer of my youth – long hot days and adventure. I want my boys to not only enjoy their summer freedom, but their time together playing and laughing and their time with me and hubby doing things they’ll always remember together as they grow older. The subtleties and the bigger details – I hope they take note as I’ve tried to do with my moments thus far with them. Admittedly however, I’ve slacked about printing photos, making photobooks and writing things down. My goal this summer is to get caught up in organizing my memories. A scrapbook maybe, or a photo album. I know I’ll forget things I wished I remembered.
Ok – enough sounding so serious! I just posted a review on a new kids book series on US cities. The one we reviewed was on Buffalo, NY. Arcadia Kids just put this out and it’s worth a visit to their website. Very nice books.
