By Renee Martinez, Founder of Raising Boys World

As a mother of all boys, I can already see the writing on the wall.

As I walk into my son’s bathroom this morning, the odor of urine overwhelms me. It smells like a swamp! I glance at the toilet and see unflushed urine…again. My 8 year-old. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve reminded him to flush the toilet, but to him, it must be optional. Honestly, I can live with a toilet seat up, I can’t live with the swamp smell. Is this a girl vs. boy issue? As the only woman in the house, then I’ll never win. I certainly don’t mind reminding him every morning, noon and night, but when will the time come when I don’t have to?

This seems like a chance though, to really teach the boys manners. Teaching manners is really important. It teaches respect and frankly, it makes them more likable. I expect my boys to respect themselves, their family and friends, so now I’m going to remind them more (than I already do) of the importance of manners. I’d like to hear your stories!!
