I remember when I was a little girl and we brought home our puppy, a Minature Schnauzer named Lady. The process of selecting her, bringing her home and watching her grow was simply awesome. She was such a sweet dog, I used to dress her up in my baby doll clothes and put her in my Barbie camper and she never complained.

We have a dog (a 15 year old male Bichon Frise) that my husband and I bought before we had children, so I decided to embark on a new animal adventure. We’re getting a new canine addition to our family. After months of research, we’re leaving today to pick up my furry female. She’s a Giant Schnauzer we’ve named Ruby.

The boys are excited. They’ve helped me prepare the house, buy the necessary items, plan our journey to get her and how she’ll live when we return. We’ve enrolled for puppy kindergarten and I’m planning for all four boys to participate as bringing a new dog into a house is a big responsibility so I’m expecting their cooperation.

Have you brought a dog into your life? How did you make the transition work?

Here’s a photo of Ruby that the breeder sent:

These four boys have no idea how they’ve changed my life for the better. They may be a few years older now (hopefully I’m a little wiser) but I’m thankful everyday to be their mom. Thankful too for the man who has been my partner on this journey. Family is everything...
