I recently attended the Gurian Institute’s Summer Conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Over 150 educators and professionals gathered to hear Michael Gurian, author of The Wonder of Boys and The Wonder of Girls, and Michael Thompson, author of Raising Cain, tell us how boys are faring in schools, at home, in life – including their emotional lives.
Imagine our shock to hear of the Aurora theatre killings…only 80 miles up the road.
Clearly, there is some sort of mental illness involved (or we tell ourselves there is) because how else can we comprehend such a horrific act?
I share with you now a video shown during the conference – and one that left the audience in silence – in hopes that you’ll look around and see what can be done in your home, in your neighborhood, in your school. The impetus for change lies within all of us…and clearly, there is no better time to act than now!
Please take less than 5 minutes to view this video – and share it on your social media and in your social circles – show it to your teachers. The work is still ahead of us to make the world right for our boys (and no, that doesn’t in any way diminish our girls – we are all lifted up together!)

If you are moved by this video, if you’d like to make a difference, you can contact Dakota Hoyt at the Gurian Institute to find out how to bring training into your school district, your homeschool network, your community organization. You can make a difference – and when there is more understanding about the difference between boys and girls – in development, in learning styles, in approach to life – then we all benefit and WE ALL THRIVE!
Sending love and light to the suffering families and community in Colorado – and all of us. No one is unaffected.
