Oldest boy went on a scouting adventure with husband for 3 days. I met them at the camp tonight for a family BBQ and campfire. It sounds like they had a great time together, surely, the memories will last forever.
Scouting is, in my opinion, a wonderful program to expose boys to activities they may not otherwise experience. It teaches respect, dedication, provides challenges and builds confidence. My son learned how to shoot a bb gun, went fishing, boating, learned archery, went on hikes, swam, and laughed and sang songs with his dad and friends. What more could a boy ask for?
My husband was an Eagle Scout, so this trip brought back memories from his own childhood. I read somewhere that the number of executives who were Eagle Scouts is very high. If you find this stat, send it to me with a link.
I think there’s so much emphasis on sports that boys feel pressure as they get older to abandon Scouts and focus on sports. The boys learn so many useful skills, as well as do community service and learn to be good citizens.
While they were away, Boy #2 and #3 stayed with Grandma and I was practically solo – only having one child was like a vacation for me. I enjoyed spending time with the baby and gosh, was it quiet. You don’t realize how noisy your life is until it’s finally quiet. It was peaceful.
