20110813-123610.jpgIts been several weeks since I’ve taken my toenail polish off. I had bright red on my toes but the chlorine from the pool and the sand from the beach started to wear down the color and it was looking really trashy. Soon I realized that no nail polish is better looking so I removed it.

If you’ve ever had several layers of bright red ob your toes, then you know what a challenge it can be to actually get the darn polish off. Consequently, I had red residue on the toes and it was scary… for like a month.

Then we were going to a wedding and I was wearing open-toe shoes and re-applied red strategically on the three toes that were peeking through. Of course, I ended up walking around with six toes that had bright red and four without (except for any previous remnants from before)…for a week- until I finally removed it back to the trashy red-residue look. Nice, huh?

I know I deserve to take care of myself, and my friends will tell you that I do…but making time for certain tasks during the summer- when the kids are out of school and childcare is limited is a struggle. When I have childcare, I work. Sure it would be nice to get a massage or shop without kids but I simply cant justify using my time for that- so I don’t.

I’ve been having the same struggle with finding the time this summer to exercise. My older boys will not sit in the babysitting room at the gym, and in the evening when hubby is home I’m making dinner, doing laundry or carting one of the children to some commitment. I simply can’t justify making the time for myself during the summer anyways. Summer is short, I’d rather enjoy my moments with the boys in the beautiful weather, not waste them.

What do you think?

These four boys have no idea how they’ve changed my life for the better. They may be a few years older now (hopefully I’m a little wiser) but I’m thankful everyday to be their mom. Thankful too for the man who has been my partner on this journey. Family is everything...
