I just need to get something off my chest. I would be happy to do the laundry, even folding the clothes doesn’t bother me… but those darn socks! Am I alone in this or do you agree that matching and putting away socks is the biggest pain. In my imaginary world, this would not be my job.
I have so much laundry, as you can imagine with 4 children, a husband and myself to deal with, it feels like the machine is always on. Now having said that, I have to admit that I’m a bit of a freak too, I hate to see anything in the laundry basket – ever. So, I make myself do at least one load per day. I’m not really good about sorting colors, but I try to do at least whites and darks (or basically anything that’s not white).
Once the laundry is dry and ready to fold, then there’s a whole new battle to deal with. I used to put everything in a basket and fold while I watched TV in the evening. That works, but I prefer folding as it comes out of the dryer. Next to the dryer I have a closet that I had hubby put shelves in. Each shelf has two names assigned to it – one to the left and one to the right. As I fold I can easily place the fresh clean items in the appropriate portion of the shelf. Nearby are baskets. There are enought baskets for each person in our home. As space on the shelf tightens, I move items to the appropriate basket and bring it to the designated bedroom.
This really helps me to take control of the laundry…until i get to this point. I’m not really a fan of putting the clothes away – I try to do it right away, but honestly, there are times when the kids are digging into the basket to find clean underwear. Then those darn socks!!! What do you do?
