He Could Use This Again In Twenty Years

Aedyn will be 3 in just a few weeks, but over the past couple months he’s shown some traits that I hope he never loses. I’m not sure if it’s just his nature or just how his father and I have raised him, but I’m proud.

Recently we moved and at one point I had a serious, sobbing breakdown. You know the type where you’re close to hyperventilating and trying to stop crying only makes it worse?

For the most part I can contain those until the boys are in bed, but this time it just couldn’t wait.

So I’m sitting in the floor of my room sobbing.

Aedyn walks in and just puts his arms around me for a couple minutes and strokes my hair. Then he began telling me “Mommy, I love you. I so proud of you.” over and over again.

When I had gotten myself a little bit calmed down, he left and came back with my drink that I’d left on the coffee table. He held it up to to let me drink saying, “It’s ok now, you be alright.” Then he just sat with me and patted my knee until I was ready to go back into the living room.

The innocence and simplicity of little boys! No trying to fix it or panicking because a girl was crying and he didn’t know how to handle it. He just did what he knew helped him. And it was exactly what I needed.

I’m going to remind him of this often, hopefully he’ll use this again in 20 or so years with his wife and maybe later with his daughters…if he can always handle crying women like this then what would keep him from ruling the world?
