I am not going to let this be another late night. I say this every evening. It’s becoming my mantra. Thank goodness for boys who sleep through the night! I love the quiet time alone in my office. It’s completely therapeutic. I dress in my comfy clothes, grab myself a huge glass of water and put on a chillout streaming radio on iTunes and voila! I’m ready to get down to business and do some work. Have you listened to streaming radio on iTunes? There are tons of them. I like the stations under the Ambient category for working at night because there is just music with a beat. I can focus, yet have something besides total quiet which could make me a little too sleepy. The ambient sound is like a cross between something you might hear at a pilates class, or in the bathroom at a swank restaurant, and music you might choose if you wanted to zone out to some trippy acid jazz meets electronica. Does that make any sense to anyone out there?
So, tonight my eldest son was working on his first research paper. They had to pick a city to write about. It’s really hard to not just jump in and do the report for him. Actually he’s been doing very well with it, so there’s no need for me to get too involved. I’ve been trying to guide him through the process and help him edit. I’m his editor. He typed all by himself and he was pretty into it. Next he has to do a drawing, which he loves to do, so it’ll be fun for him. It was funny because when he came into my office my ambient music was on. He was upset that I had left it on when I wasn’t at my computer, especially given that today is Earth Day. But then, he stopped and noticed the music and said, “Mom, this is good. I like the beat.” So I guess he forgave me for wasting a little energy. I guess my music was a good excuse.
In addition to my ritual mentioned above, I’m a huge multi-tasker, I guess I have to be. I’m currently working on writing some press releases for a company, designing some swank invitations and writing an article for a website. How do you manage everything? I must admit, life has become much easier since my new iPhone came into my life. It is honestly something I cannot live without. From planning my schedule on my calendar that syncs with my computer to maintaining all of my contacts, my emails…my life! I LOVE MY iPHONE!!! My boys do too, they like all the fun apps I have on it. Did I mention the running app? That I’ll save for another post, suffice it to say that, it rocks.
I am not going to let this be another late night. I am not going to let this be another late night. If I say it enough and click my heels together, maybe I’ll believe it…or maybe not, there’s always a triple venti to save me.
