Lights On! and Off…and Lockin Doors

My 3-year old is driving me a little crazy with his recent obsession with turning the lights on and off ….

We go into a room and ALL the lights MUST be on for him. Even in the daytime – he loves to have the lights on. At night, when one would think to use the lights, he enjoys turning them off. So last night I’m in the bathroom putting on some make-up when he walks in to check on me. Then he leaves and turns the lights off and leaves me in the dark.

He also seems to enjoy locking doors. When he goes to the bathroom, he insists on locking the door behind him, it’s kind of frustrating then when he calls me to wipe him and the door is locked. He’s also big on locking doors behind him or even more fun locking people in rooms. Such as the baby.

He’s locked the baby in a room in the dark too.

I’m not really fond of this behavior and I realize he’s not doing anything to be mean – it’s just a phase – one we’ll laugh about and remember when he’s older, but none of the other guys have done this. Have you dealt with this?

I’ve become really good at unlocking doors.

Tomorrow I’m posting a new episode of the Raising Boys podcast so check back. It’s on either H1N1 or circumcision. So check back to find out which one.
