Meet Running Girl! Mother of three

Happy New Year!

My blogging name is Running Girl. I was excited when Tara approached me to join Raising Boys World. My family might have been considered “non-traditional” in the past. But in 2012, what does non-traditional really mean?

Becoming a mother of three

Three years ago my husband, The Major, and I had been married for 17 years and had 2 biological children. We thought our family was complete with our son, Subway Dude, and our daughter, The Fashionista. Somewhere along the way The Major, and I decided to adopt. Our youngest, Island Boy, came home from Haiti, 12 days after the devastating earthquake of January 12, 2010.

Now The Major and I find ourselves parenting a Senior, a Freshman and a Kindergartner. I am excited to explore the challenges of raising children, and especially boys, here at RBW. I hope to share with you the experiences of raising children of such wide age ranges. I will talk about with the challenges of raising an internationally adopted child and what it means to be a mixed race family.

Along with my busy family life, I work full time as an elementary school music teacher. I fit in training runs for half and full marathons. I cook healthy, mostly organic meals. I keep up with my never-ending reading lists and try to educate myself with the help of NPR.

What’s so non-traditional about that?
