So another year is over. Remember in the movie Nemo when Dori was swimming and she kept repeating, “Keep moving, moving. Keep moving, moving…” as she tried to swim through the jellyfish. I was thinking about New Year’s and realized it’s kind if similar.
We’re all just swimming through life avoiding obstacles. Back in 1999 when the New Year bell rang, some people thought the world might actually change as we ticked into the new millennium.
I’ve realized that New Year’s is more about aging as we tread into each new year. As the old year becomes a thing of the past, we reflect on what we did, how we did and with whom. We may have lost friends and family or gained. We may have changed jobs or changed communities.
With each year that passes, one thing is for certain; each and every one of us will age. Some with style and grace others with a flight. The new year is almost like a birthday, a time to reflect on your life at various ages.
When you throw kids into the mix, New Year’s is also a reminder of where they’ve been. Its about watching them grow as we reminisce when they were younger and when we were younger too.
Our New Year’s tradition is that we stay home, eat lobster, watch a movie and wait for the ball to drop. What did you do on New Year’s? If you didn’t sit down and start reminiscing on the past year with your family, you should start!
