I live in an area that receives a good amount of snow. You never know when a storm might hit but from November (though we did have a massive storm a few years ago in October) through March…it could be sunny one minute and snowing the next. Sometimes, it’s hard to be prepared. I remember one day years ago in January, when I went to work in cute flats and a lighter winter coat only to find more than a foot of snow on my car when I was ready to leave. It was that night that my car broke down on the way home from work, when the guy I met at my new job (now my husband) stopped to help me out…but thats another story for another time. 🙂
So as I type this, there are people in my community who have been stuck in their car on the highway and nearby roads for up to 14 hours. Hard to believe. Why the system to prevent this does not work…is also another story – it is a snowbelt and one would assume that state and local snow removal employees would be prepared for snow in December – but apparently they weren’t as so now people are stuck in cars.

So that made me start thinking about how to prepare for various situations. What should I be doing now so that if, God forbid, a situation arises and I’m stuck in my car (with or without my children) I’d be ready.
Here’s what I’m planning to put together and keep in my car in a bag or box that can store easily in this small covered area in my truck:
- Blanket
- An assortment if drink boxes and Horizon milk boxes
- A variety of snacks such as granola bars, raisins, etc…
- First-aid kit
- Flashlight
To name a few items – what else should I add? Any suggestions?…Even if you don’t live in a snowy area, you never know when you might be in a  situation that have you stranded.
