I recently took a bookmaking class at Kent State. It was something I’d never expected to do much less enjoy as much as I did. There was freedom in technical precision through the ability to release a voice as opposed to create an image. That may sound odd but as a painter I create what I see as beautiful but not necessarily something that expresses my voice. With bookmaking, I felt it was a medium that inspired sharing my voice. Expect a change in my paintings to come. .
What you see in this little photo montage is a book I created on sugar. As a fairly health-conscious person, I’m always amazed yet concerned by how much sugar is in what we eat given that it can have an impact on our health. I create this book to share all the names for sugar that’s hidden in our food and to if nothing else make us think and be aware.
I’ll share some more books I created soon. I can’t wait to show you the diaper book!

Ignore the little pieces of sugar everywhere in these photos!

Front of book
See the little sugar-coated guy?
This may be a little clearer. Sugar is known by numerous names (64 actually). Can you see the other words for sugar around the packets?
This is the back side of the accordian book.
I hope you can see the details on the back of the guy that explains all the health ailments connected to too much sugar consumption.
