Generally, I’m pretty laid back. Today was one of those crazy days when I felt like I might explode. You know, we’ve all had those days. It started knowing that I would be busy for every planned moment of the from morning to night.
I won’t bore you with the details, but literally every moment was accounted for. By the way, taking 4 boys to hockey practice at 5pm – is not so much fun. I brought pre-dinner snacks so it helped, but let me tell you, when we did finally arrive at our home, we were all crabby, hungry and tired. So we had cereal for dinner. A bonus when your spouse is away is that you don’t need to fuss over meals.
After last minutes homework details, I put the boys to bed and sat my lazy butt on the couch. Finally a moment of peace and relaxation.
Then the phone rang.
My hopes of rest and laziness flew out the window. Walking into my disaster of an office to take the call reminded me of how I need to put away some files and clutter. Before I knew it I found myself in a whirlwind of cleaning and organizing and 2 conversations later – I have a neater office.
Yet, I still find myself with piles of papers that I can’t decide whether to toss or file. How much “stuff” does one honestly require in life? When is it ok to banish the clutter to the circular file? I’ve decided that since I now have “organized piles” I will review each and every scrap of paper in each pile and either file or toss – tomorrow. By Friday, my hope is that my office will be clutter and pile free. The rest of my house doesn’t suffer from such disarray. In fact, everything else is very organized. i have a system for everything. For some reason, the office is the clutter-zone, a catch-all for papers I either don’t know what to do with, no longer need or will require at some point before I die.
I think I need one of the those organizational people to come to my world and save me. If you know anyone, please send them my way. I believe a clean organized home is a clean happy mind. More productive and easier to live with. I try to teach order and organization and respecting one’s “things” to my boys in hopes that they too can employ their own little strategies to maintaining peace in their lives.
