Summer is knocking at the door of Kay Nou (Our House). For many around the country, it has already arrived.
Last summer, our family took some big trips. This year is shaping up to be one where we will be stationed close to home.
We will be focusing on keeping our youngest, Island Boy, academically ready to enter 1st grade in the fall. He will be attending a summer school program that is offered through his school district. We will be doing lots of reading at home and honing his math skills.
Here are a few free reading incentive programs that might be of interest to you. They look like they would be available nationwide.
* Barnes and Noble is giving a free book to every student in grades 1-6 who read 8 books over the summer.
* Pottery Barn has age appropriate lists for children. If your child completes the list, they can earn a free book.
* Chuck E. Cheese has an incentive program. If your child reads every day for 2 weeks, they can earn 10 tokens to be used at their establishment.
* Best of all, you should definitely check out your local public library. I’ll bet you dollars to donuts they have a summer reading program for your child.
Happy Reading!
