My 10 year-old is in full-blown tween mode. He’s full of attitude.

Today, like the last few days, he comes downstairs at 7:22am in his underwear to look in the laundry room for clean clothes. What’s he’s really looking for is beyond me as he has a closet full of clothes, yet nothing to ever wear. Meanwhile, I’ve been calling up to tell him to hurry up, breakfast is ready.

His bus comes at 7:35am.

So I have this thing I call “fun Friday”, it’s when I allow the boys to wear t-shirts instead of shirts with collar and I allow them to buy lunch instead of sending them with one I made. When one behaves, does their work and doesn’t complain much they can have “fun Friday” -it’s very easy.

Today, at 7:22 when my son copped an attitude when I reminded him of the time and that I know he has clothes to wear…and that he won’t have “fun Friday” today…he became really nasty with me and raised his voice (which has been happening a lot lately).

I’m so over this cranky attitude. I want my cute boy back! Here’s the thing that upsets me, when he’s being disrespectful in front of his younger siblings, they hear him and repeat what he does. So when he told me I was mean and to shut up, then the 2 year-old started saying “you’re mean” I was ready to show him what “mean” really means!

So I grounded him. This weekend he’s going to be stuck in his room. I’ve never grounded him and it seems like it could be as much a punishment for him as it will be for me…but I want to prove a point. Hubby says I’m being too harsh. What do you think?

These four boys have no idea how they’ve changed my life for the better. They may be a few years older now (hopefully I’m a little wiser) but I’m thankful everyday to be their mom. Thankful too for the man who has been my partner on this journey. Family is everything...
